About us
In 2019 the Care Professional Academy was launched to
professionalise the Adult Social Care Workforce and support Local
Authorities to meet the requirements of the Care Act to recruit,
retain, and maintain a professional workforce.
History
After 15 years of success in Hertfordshire, HCPA proudly announces its Nationwide offer, bringing care sector experience and expertise to counties across the UK. Through training, business support, Academy rewards, and knowledge banks, we partner with Local Authorities, Associations, Alliances, and Care Providers to share best practice and raise care quality nationwide.
Reflecting on our journey, HCPA has reached significant milestones that shaped who we are today. Since 2009, under new leadership, we evolved from a small care provider led group into an independent, not-for-profit organisation, creating a fairer footing for over 700 Hertfordshire providers, with a focus on quality and equity. Partnering with the County Council, we progressed from a Memorandum of Understanding to a £2 million contract, delivering projects aligned with CQC and Council priorities under the theme ‘Raising Quality Together!
Early projects included training, falls prevention, and engagement initiatives. To meet European Funding requirements, we revamped our training model, delivering over 9,000 funded places for Hertfordshire’s workforce. During COVID, we pioneered the ‘Provider Hub’ model of provider support, recognised by the DHSC as best practice, and became an essential daily resource for providers. We also introduced impartial assessors in Hospital Trusts and authored the Hertfordshire Workforce Strategy. Our Champions pathways earned an HSJ award for enhancing social care roles.
